A diamond certificate could also be called a "blue-print" or the "fingerprint" of a diamond. It tells you all of the diamond's exact measurements and weight as well as detailed information on its cut, color, and quality. It accurately displays all of the individual characteristics of the stone. The diamond certificate, or "cert" is it is sometimes referred to as, also serves as the proof of the diamond's identity and value.
NOTE THAT AN APPRAISAL IS NOT THE SAME AS AN INDEPENDENTLY GRADED DIAMOND CERTIFICATE! Some of our competitors say that they grade some of their diamonds in-house in accordance to independent laboratory guidelines. Except no impostors! That is not the same as a certificate issued by an independent grading lab like the Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A). If a jewelry store or Website offers to sell you a diamond without a certificate, please keep in mind that it means you are buying a diamond based on the salesperson's personal assessment about its quality and color. A diamond certificate is not an appraisal. A certificate describes the quality of a diamond, but it does not place a dollar value on the loose gem. When you purchase a certified stone, you have proof of a true and proper grading; therefore you know exactly the quality of the diamond you are purchasing. An appraisal will go out of date and therefore needs to be updated on a periodic basis. A diamond certificate never goes out of date and contains information that will last forever.
